International Program

International Treasures

Curator: Dr. Erez Peri

The international program of this year’s Festival sustains the vision it has held since its conception – providing a different kind of cinema, the majority of which cannot be found in commercial movie theaters or in DVD libraries. This is a cinema we seek globally, inspired and in the spirit of Henri Langlois, the legendary director of the Cinémathèque Française, who sought to bring a new, diverse cinema from all over the world. Once again the Festival strives to discover and feature new trends in contemporary cinema and invited hundreds of award winning directors who signal new directions and create pulsating and dynamic films. This year we are proud to present a program created by fascinating filmmakers who change and redefine the cinematic language – Valérie Massadian from France, Michel Franco from Mexico and Gaston Solnicki from Argentina.

Given the dynamism and changes that characterize modern cinema and that are primarily manifested in the near and distant peripheries, at Cinema South Festival we attempt to make accessible and bring to the awareness of the viewer some of those films that pertain to contemporary art. We deem it essential to accompany the cinematic shapes that fascinate and challenge us, to share them and to seize therewith the speed in which the world moves. I am convinced that every movie buff who wants to feel the pulse and rhythm of contemporary international cinema will not want to miss the 18th Cinema South Festival.
